Built on the prestigious legacy of the UK BMJ Awards, the world’s leading medical honours, the South Asia edition was launched in India in 2014 to recognise the extraordinary contributions of healthcare professionals across India and the wider South Asian region. With six successful editions delivered so far, the BMJ Awards: South Asia have established themselves as one of the most respected and credible healthcare recognition platforms in South Asia. Like much of the healthcare world, the awards were paused during the covid-19 pandemic. In 2024-25, the BMJ Awards South Asia were relaunched, and the response from the medical community was exceptional, with hundreds of highly credible and ground-breaking nominations received across all categories. This reflected the trust, relevance, and prestige of the BMJ name and its awards.
Healthcare teams across South Asia continue to operate in complex, high-pressure environments, balancing clinical excellence with rising patient volumes, public health responsibilities, and system level challenges. Despite these demands, they consistently demonstrate outstanding commitment, innovation, and compassion. For 2026 and beyond, the awards maintain the legacy of recognising work that delivers meaningful, measurable impact on patient outcomes, healthcare delivery, and community health.
